 Job Description:  

Gerdau is currently seeking a Desktop Support Supervisor this position will be located in Whitby ON.

The Desktop Support Supervisor, under direct supervision of the Sr. Manager, Field Support, will provide guidance and leadership to a team of Field Support Technicians. The Desktop Support Supervisor may have virtual reporting relationships, as they are facilitating regional IT operations.
The Desktop Support Supervisor reports directly to a Manager, Field Support or Sr. Manager, Field Support. The Desktop Support Supervisor will provide support to employees and customers both directly and indirectly through Field Support Technicians within area of responsibility. Incumbent will serve in an advisory role with 5 to 7 direct reports. The Deskto[ Support Supervisor is responsible for directing the work of Technicians at 4 to 5 locations.
The Desktop Support Supervisor adheres to established company policies and guidelines while carrying out their responsibilities. Overall, the Desktop Support Supervisor ensures achievement of projects, enhancements, operations and support for all assigned functional areas; institutionalization of all policies, procedures, guidelines and internal processes; and ensures all assigned resources are used in the most efficient and effective manner to improve performance of the regional business.

Responsibilities for this position include first-line coordination of team members. The Desktop Support Supervisor works closely with management to understand the IT business plan and then leads the team to perform according to the plan. Team coordination, minor fiscal management, and group direction are all functions performed by the Desktop Support Supervisor. The Desktop Support Supervisor must have excellent communication skills, good presentation skills, and a detailed understanding of technology.

The Desktop Support Supervisor must collaborate with Business Analysts, customers, colleagues, and other stakeholders to identify users’ information requirements and seek opportunities to deploy and support systems that will improve business processes and support critical business strategies, while educating the workforce about the strategic use of technology within the business. The Desktop Support Supervisor coordinates the day-to-day development, deployment, integration, and support of assigned functional areas, and implements and measures functional processes that will support the overall business in an efficient and effective manner. The Desktop Support Supervisor further must be an active participant within the NAIT management team, institutionalizing the Gerdau Business System within their assigned functional area; understanding and supporting the vision and direction; and participating in the development and deployment of strategies, objectives, goals and projects relating to the overall group. The incumbent must continually seek opportunities to leverage Information Technologies for Gerdau.

In addition, the Desktop Support Supervisor ensures the highest level of customer satisfaction through the receipt, research, problem solving, resolution, and/or coordination of resolution of IT related issues and requests in accordance with established policies, procedures, guidelines, and internal processes. Work with local management with regards to technology challenges, project implementation, and innovation. This role is also responsible to share NAIT and Global IT strategy and other critical IT related information back to local site management.
 

 

 
 
 Qualifications:  


• Associates Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related discipline; combined with a minimum of 5 years work experience in desktop support, including 2 years in a heavy, industrial environment.
• Must have at least 2-3 years experience supervising peers in desktop support.
• Proficient in Microsoft OS and other regular packaged software.
• Advanced networking and server skills.
• Industry-recognized certifications.
• Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to coordinate requests from different business areas, prioritizes, and executes tasks in a high-pressure environment.
• Ability to work efficiently with peers, end users, Senior Management, and outside vendors.
• Ability to travel as needed.
• Aware of data analysis, end user requirement analysis, business requirements, and SLA development.
• Solid problem solving skills including providing alternative options/approaches.
• Working knowledge of current systems software, protocols, and standards.
• Good knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
• Good knowledge of applicable security best practices and procedures.
• Experience working in a matrix organization
• Excellent multi-tasking and written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong written, technical documentation, and oral communication skills, with ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
• Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
