Gerdau is currently seeking a Electrical Engineer V for its St. Paul facility. Relocation is available!!


The Engineer V will provide technical coordination and support in the operating and capital expense management processes by initiating and running projects using the capital expense (CAPEX) project process, equipment monitoring, stabilization and improvements through;
a) Develop and refine engineering procedures.
b) Process sample and data collection and interpretation.
c) Implement new technology.
d) Train and develop technical operations
e) Conduct Technical Studies to support CAPEX investments.
f) Implement Best Practices.
g) Support process improvement projects where applicable.
h) Participate in the development of Annual Action Plans.
i) Participate in Technical Committee benchmark.

This position serves in an advisory or consulting capacity coach to all levels of employees, contractors and plan management. This position will have 5 or more direct reports. The Engineer V will actively participate in the technical development for Engineer I, Engineer II, Engineer III, Engineer IV, and maintenance personal. Responsibilities will include providing assistance and support to all locations within the company. The incumbent will serve in an engineering technical specialist capacity with emphasis more on technical support for design and evaluation rather than installation and construction. This position has direct responsibility for specific projects with high complexity and values up to $50,000,000. Incumbent will be required to frequently and/or for extended periods of time travel to work on CAPEX projects.
This position is primarily responsible for developing, refining, and communicating the strategies and engineering information needed to optimize productivity and capital projects while ensuring the efficient and cost effective production of the final product. The Engineer V shall prepare and/or review all data sheets, diagrams, and flow charts needed for the correct and efficient development of project, capital, and expense plans in order to develop and run capital projects. This will include the need to work in close cooperation with department supervisors and appropriate engineering, maintenance, and operations team members to ensure correct and proper selection, installation, and operation of all related equipment to obtain the desired production, safety, and quality levels as needed. The Engineer V is responsible for developing engineering information to facilitate departmental requests and needs for cost justification.
The Engineer V will assist in the preparation and completion of blue prints for additions, installations, and maintenance/repair purposes. This job is responsible for preparing drawings and sketches for modifications of machinery and equipment, and layouts on various systems. The incumbent will assist in checking and verifying specifications and drawings for accuracy on large projects that require design drawings needed in constructing the facility. Must stay abreast of current technologies in order to identify and work to resolve areas where improvement is needed. Incumbent must be able to work independently as well in a team environment on process, capital, and equipment related projects for their assigned projects.
The incumbent must perform the above mentioned duties and responsibilities in accordance with all Federal, State, and Local environmental regulations. Employees must also report any situation which may have a detrimental impact to human health or the environment to their immediate supervisor.


• Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering combined with a minimum of 10 years of Electrical Automation, High & Medium Voltage experience
• Masters Degree preferred
• Extensive training and experience in Greenfield and Brownfield construction as project engineer and/or project manager
• General knowledge of steelmaking industry, manufacturing
• Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
• Strong troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work with all levels within the organization
• Must be able to work independently, as well as part of a team.
• Proficient in scheduling and/or project management software, and AutoCAD.
• Successful candidate will have an advanced knowledge of multiple National and State building and construction code requirements
